The Jewish Caring Network

The Jewish Caring Network The Jewish Caring Network, formed in 1996, is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing a full range of support services to families facing life-threatening, lifelong, and serious illnesses while preserving their privacy and their dignity. When serious illness strikes, the entire family is affected. The Jewish Caring Network’s programs, activities, and services are designed to help each family member. It is our hope that we are able to enrich our families’ lives, providing support, strength and the knowledge that the Jewish community is standing by them throughout the duration of their difficult journey. All of the programs and services we provide are free of charge.  Each family’s situation is individually assessed, enabling us to cater to their specific needs.  All of the services we provide are free of charge and include, but are not limited to the following: nursing care funds, respite care, Big Brother/Big Sister programs, SundayFunday program, summer camp assistance, groceries and prepared meals, tutoring, birthday and holiday gifts, counseling & grief counseling.  Numerous other services are also available to our families. When families feel overwhelmed and alone, The Jewish Caring Network reaches out with a helping hand and a loving heart.  The Jewish Caring Network is an organization comprised of caring, compassionate individuals who are sensitive to the unique needs of each individual they help. The Tikva House is a ‘home-away-from-home’ for the families of seriously ill patients who are receiving medical treatment at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Tikva House is a ‘home-away-from-home’ for the families of seriously ill patients who are receiving medical treatment at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Jewish Caring Network’s mission is to assist families facing illness.  The Tikva House project is an extension of this mission.  Treatments can last for days, weeks, months or even years, creating a hardship for children and their parents. During their stay at the Tikva House, families can enjoy many of the comforts of home, receive nutritious meals, and obtain emotional support through contact with other families experiencing similar situations.  The Tikva House allows families to preserve the family unit in the midst of physical, emotional, and economic adversity. FWhen a loved one has a serious illness and requires a specialized treatment, they often have to travel far from home to receive the medical care they need.  For families facing such a stressful medical journey, it is a great relief to know that there is a place they can go where they can stay together, as a family unit, in a caring and welcoming environment. The Tikva House’s seven suites are equipped with two beds, a private bathroom, as well as blankets, sheets, pillows, towels, a dresser, closet space, and room safe.  Additionally, to accommodate each family’s needs, each room has a kitchenette, table and chairs, refrigerator/freezer, hot water urn, and microwave. The communal kitchen has individual pantries for each family as well as a full-size refrigerator & freezer, two microwaves, hot plates, and a hot water urns.  The communal kitchen is stocked daily with kosher meals as well as coffee, tea, and a multitude of snacks. Additionally, for Shabbat and holidays, meals are provided. Families staying in the Tikva House will have the freedom to maintain their privacy and, if they choose, may visit the common room where they have the ability to draw strength and support through interaction with the other guests. The Tikva House, with your help, will be able to serve not only our local community, but the entire Jewish community worldwide.
